We ditch the bun, of course, but you won’t even miss it because this burger is flavored to perfection with a south of the border blend of spices and herbs. Top it mile-high with the toppings of your choice. Don’t be afraid to add guacamole, healthy mayo and olives!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey (85/15)
  • 1 (4oz) can green chilis, diced
  • 1 cup cilantro, chopped
  • 1/2 cup onion, diced*
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder, or spice powder of choice
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 10 butter lettuce leaves

Optional Toppings

  • Olives
  • Guacamole
  • Crumbled cheese
  • Microgreens
  • Paleo mayo
  • Mustard
  • Hot sauce
  • *To make FODMAP Friendly, use green parts of 3 green onions. Use FODMAP Friendly toppings like microgreens, mustard, and mayonnaise.

Directions

  1. Heat a BBQ or an indoor grill pan over medium-high.

  2. In a large bowl, add the ground turkey through sea salt and use hands to gently knead together. Form 4 patties. Coat both sides with cooking spray and lay on the grill.

  3. Cook for about 5-minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°. Let rest for 3 minutes.

  4. Assemble the burgers by placing atop one lettuce leaf, adding toppings and layering the last leaf on top.

  5. Add more fat to this meal by using toppings, or, choosing a higher-fat side dish or salad with an oil-based dressing.
